Who are the greatest duathletes the game has ever seen? This is a difficult question considering the number of individuals that have achieved so much and have created records that will be near impossible to break. The game has seen a lot of stars rise and fall, but these three athletes have achieved so much and can be called the best athletes ever to have participated in the sports.
Kenny Souza is a successful American duathlete born and raised in Hacienda Heights, California. Kenny Souza kicked off his career as a triathlete before switching back to a duathlon. From 1980 to 1990, Kenny won the US duathlon championship for a record-breaking eight times; he grabbed the world duathlon champion once and was the most prominent athlete in the sport because of his built and photogenic appearance. Kenny achieved his most significant success when he won both the first ITU Duathlon World Championship and the Powerman Zofingen all in 1990. He withdrew from the game after receiving a three-year suspension in 1998 for starting without a valid license and worked as a representative for Clif bar, a sports nutrition manufacturer. He later returned to the sports in 2005 and participated in several long0hual and ultra-long-distance racing events.
Benny is a famous Belgian Duathlete that ruled the sport in the first decade of the 21st century when he won over 80% of all the competition he participated. Benny’s achievements include the World Junior title in 1997, the ITU world standard distance ( 10 Km-40 Km-10 km) champion 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004, ITU world long distance champion 2000, 2001, 2005, 2006. The ETU European champion in 1999, 2001, 2002,2003, 2007. In 2001, Benny won all the three titles in the same season. Benny won the Powerman World long distance ( 10 km-150km-30 km) championship in 2005 and 2006. He won the award for the “sports jewel of Flanders” in 2003. Flander’s highest honor for a sportsman. Benny was hit by a car while training on his bike on September 8, 2007. He was severely injured. He suffered a broken leg, facial injuries, a torn spleen and damage to the heart and lungs. He was making a good recovery and was about to leave the intensive care section of the Hospital in Roeselare but suffered a cardiac arrest and died on September 14, 2007. Benny’s younger brother continued with the sport in the family tradition and like his brother was also successful with four world titles to his name.
Catriona is one of the most successful female Duathlon player in the history of the sports. She won the silver medal at the ITU duathlon world championship and followed it up with a gold and silver medal at the Long Distance Duathlon World Championships in 2006. She grabbed the bronze medal at the Long Distance Triathlon World Championship in Lorient in 2007 and was also the champion at the World Duathlon Long Distance Championships in 2007 and 2008. She was also very successful in her Triathlon career and have so many ironman titles to her name.
